Our History

A story starting in 2011…

Our Story of Community Leadership

The desire to create NC 100% came from social justice work that began in 2011 by the Rockingham County Champions for Education (RCCE), which primarily used social gatherings and community events to raise small-dollar scholarships for graduating seniors from the four major Rockingham County high schools.

RCCE also served as a conduit for expanding professional networks, connecting former students who found success in the professional world with current students through intentional communication, outreach, and education.

Community Roots, Growing Impact

Approved for 501 C 3 status in 2015, RCCE began a partnership with the Reidsville Area Foundation (RAF) in 2016.

That partnership involved the expansion of an existing RAF program that was focused on lending support to students, teachers, and parents of potentially disadvantaged Rockingham County students in grades K-5.

During this partnership, our program managers discovered there is a real need to provide structured but consistent community collaboration space, provide opportunities for educators and parents and build on relationships, and connect many different groups in Rockingham County to resources as we organize in authentic ways, keeping our cultural relevance.

Our mission

Serving as a consistent and persistent partner with 100% individuals, groups, and institutions for the betterment of 100% of Rockingham County and beyond.

Portia M. Parris, a 1974 graduate of Reidsville Senior High School had a clear love of children, an unquenchable thirst for the church, literary arts, civic engagement, environmental rights, access to wealth, and education, which is the gift that lasts a lifetime.

Her dedication and commitment to helping children in her community carried over into her employment at the Hayes-Taylor YMCA in Greensboro, NC as the Executive Director of the Achiever’s Program and Director of the Reidsville Teen Center – Reidsville Parks and Recreation Department.
